TV/Radio Notifications for My Favorite Sports Teams

I was just watching the Georgia – Vanderbilt foot ball game on CBS. I randomly decided to browse to see what other football games were on, and on NBC, I found the Seattle Sounders FC game against Dallas in the 25th minute.

Awesome! I just watched the rest of the game, as I’m not much of a college football fan anyway. The Sounders lost and didn’t clinch a play-off spot, so that was a bit of a downer.

Where am I going with this?

A drop dead sports app idea came to mind.

An app that sends me notifications when the sports teams I actually care about (Sounders, Seahawks, Mariners) are on TV or the radio.

What did I want today? A simple push notification that said “Seattle Sounders starting in 5 minutes on NBC.”

The app would need to know what type of tv service I subscribe to (the answer is basic, basic cable), so as to not send me notifications for games on premium stations I don’t have access to.

Does it exist? If not, build it and I’ll be the first beta tester.

Hi Drew, I found your post interesting because I also wanted an app that sends sports notifications. I was going to build one myself just for NY Knicks game start notifications, but found out the ESPN ScoreCenter app does this. You get to add favorite teams and favorite sports leagues. There is a my notifications setting which allows you to set alerts there. I’ll find out tonight if it actually works!

Also, I’m a big fan of this website. I made an Android app called SAT Vocab Master a couple years ago for fun, but within the last month or so I’ve improved it a lot, to the point where I’m almost ready to make a pro version. This has been a great source for ideas, and I’ll definitely try to implement some of them into apps soon. I especially want to make the crowdsourced caller ID app someone else posted.

But does it just alert you when the game starts? Or does it only alert me when it’s on tv/radio and where to listen/watch?

Good point. Probably only when the game starts since it doesn’t mention anything about whether or not the game is on tv/radio. Sorry I forgot to point out that part.

I don’t want a notification every time they play, only if there is something actionable that goes with it…such as watching it. There is already too much useless crap taking up my time/attention :)
